Getting back on the excersize wagon

After a couple weeks of being busy (as well as out of town) I am looking to get back on the exercise wagon.
Goal will be light to start: 2 times to the Gym and 3 times to the Dojo a week.

Hopefully I will ramp that up which, when paired with the diet, will help me loose a bit of weight ... well I am hoping to lose 50 lbs over the next 6 months.

We will see.

In case you did not know this...

Phoenix is hot. Very Very hot. Way mucho grande el hoto.

Of course the local who drove the van from the airport to the hotel said that it was "a bit cooler today" due to the cloud cover.

The hotel is nice and so far the staff is very helpful and friendly.
And it is hot here.

The trip down was pretty good, despite potential disaster.

The flight was at 7:20 AM and we arrived to the gate at 6:42 AM for the scheduled 6:50 Boarding. No problem.
They were board a flight when we arrived, so I was expecting that we would have a late departure. We sat down and started eating our quick breakfast items we had grabbed.

At that point I noticed that the information for out flight was up on the board and said that they had "Upgrades available". I scooted over and found out that they had one seat in first class that would cost $50 to upgrade to. So, I upgraded Vicki and at this point asked what flight had just boarded (it was now about 6:55 am). It turned out that it was OUR flight.

So we quickly boarded.
Vicki had a nice trip up in first class and since they did not have time to book someone in next to me, I was comfortable as well. Win Win.

Locus Awards and SFM HoF Ceremony

Yesterday was the Locus Awards and SFM HoF Ceremony held at the Lake Union Courtyard Marriott in Seattle.
This is the third year that I have attended the Locus awards here in Seattle (I am not certain how many years they have hosted them in Seattle) and this is the fourth year I have attended the SFM HoF ceremonies.

The Locus awards are a low key, fun award ceremony. MC'd by Connie Willis (for the last umpteen years) they move right along. The event does not take itself to seriously and it is a good day of chatting with interesting people.
For a complete list of winners, see list on the Locus Magazine Web site.

The SFM Awards on the other hand have tried to be a big ... important... affair and have tended to drag along. Add to that SFM's typical lack of competence at administering things and you have an event that is not nearly as good as it could be.

This year the SFM was apparently crunched by the economy along with everyone else and, if I understand things correctly, was seriously considering canceling the induction ceremony all together.  Fortunately, a deal was worked out with the Locus Awards and some other folks and the ceremonies were held in a much reduced format at the Marriott.  This did not completely annul the usual SFM lack of administrative competence but it did lessen it.

Over all I had a good time, but the SFM needs to get its act together (I know, I know- nothing new there). Why they refuse to get the local fannish community involved in running the even baffles me.

Here are my pictures from the event.

Roger Ebert reviewed transformers and ... well... I suspect that when I finally see it on DVD - when I have absolutely nothing else to do - I will probably find he  was far too kind.

I really did mean to go to the gym this morning. (not necessarily wanted to... but meant to) I got out of the house on time, made it there in good time, got out of the car and... well.. realized I had left my gym bag at home.

*Sigh*

I guess this was my brain telling me that my legs really were to tired after the dojo work out last night.

Catching up:

Week of 6/1 - 6/7: Nada, was out of town then meetings and not feeling great.

Week of 6/8 - 6/14:
Made it to the Gym two times
Gym: Tread Mill 25 minutes @ 3.0% grade 2.41 miles, Dual Action Elliptical  20 minutes
Gym: Tread Mill 30 minutes @ 2.6% grade 2.81 miles, Dual Action Elliptical  20 minutes

Dojo 2 times.
